WITH work well under way on York’s Rose Theatre and productions of Shakespeare’s plays, let us wish them every success and not just A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

With performances including Macbeth and Richard III, both with their dark and sinister undertones and tales of intrigue, they may well be associated with the bear baiting that goes on within the present Houses of Parliament, where changes in allegiance are commonplace.

With regards to exchanging the white rose of York with the red rose of Lancaster, I cannot envisage our present Prime Minister Theresa May exchanging roses with devolution in mind.

To nurture a new Brexit beginning with a new strain of rose bush with Jeremy Corbyn.

For myself, born in York of Lancastrian parents, one never knows, I may become liberal-minded, if they make me a Lord.
