EACH year, the York Design Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the best new buildings, restoration projects or public spaces in York.

York Theatre Royal, the Chocolate Works at Terry’s, York Art Gallery, the Hiscox building and the restored Walmgate Bar have all won awards in the past, but what will win this year?

In May, judges visited every one of the 28 projects entered for this year’s Design Awards.

They will choose winners in several categories, with the winners being announced at an awards ceremony at the Ron Cooke Hub at the University of York on June 25.

In addition, one award goes to a public vote.

Each year, we ask readers to vote for your favourite scheme.

The entry attracting most votes will be presented with the prestigious The Press People’s Award on the awards night.

From the 28 schemes entered for this year’s York Design Awards, 27 have put themselves forward for The Press award.

You can see details of each of the entries and cast your vote from today by visiting yorkpress.co.uk/designawards.

Like last year, we are asking for you to vote for your three favourite schemes. Voting closes on Saturday, June 16. Please study the entries, then tick your three favourites. This is your chance to send a message to designers and architects about the kind of development you want to see in our city in future.

The entries will also be displayed in the entrance foyer of York Explore library from today until until Saturday, June 9. Voting slips will be available at the library.

For full details of all the entries and to cast your vote, go to yorkpress.co.uk/designawards.

Happy voting!
