TWO electricity pylons caught fire in a North Yorkshire village yesterday evening (June 3).

A fire crew from Tadcaster was called to reports of an electricity pole alight on Buck Lane in Church Fenton at 7.25pm.

When firefighters arrived they confirmed two pylons were on fire and three cables had come down onto the road.

The cause of the fire is believed to be a blown transformer on one of the pylons, North Yorkshire fire service said.

The crew assisted police and Northern Powergrid at the scene.
