DOZENS of residents have attended a public information drop-in to learn more about plans to reduce flood risk to homes near the New Walk footpath alongside York’s River Ouse.

The Environment Agency scheme was the second to be announced last year using £45 million allocated by the Government to improve York flood defences following the devastating flooding of 2015.

The drop-in, held at the agency’s ‘hub’ in Wellington Row, gave staff a chance to answer questions about possible options for the properties, situated between the Ouse’s confluence with the River Foss and Millennium Bridge.

Flood and water management consultants from JBA were also at the event to explain what flood resilience measures could be installed in individual properties.

The Emergency Planning team from City of York Council was also there to discuss the emergency plan which is currently under development for the area.
