THE police watchdog has moved Humberside Police out of special monitoring after acknowledging improvements.

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) judged the force as inadequate following an inspection in October 2015 and highlighted a number of weaknesses, including the way police dealt with vulnerable people.

Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter said: “I met with HMIC and I am delighted to report that the inspectorate has come to the conclusion that the force has not only made progress but has in place the right management and plans to take them forward and make further improvements.

“This decision is testimony to the hard work undertaken by the chief constable and his management team, who have been in place for a relatively short period of time, and all the officers and staff of Humberside Police.”

Chief Constable Lee Freeman said he was pleased with the news and staff morale has also improved.

He added: “There is more to do and we will keep the momentum going as we continue to make even more improvements and deliver a service that the people in our communities deserve.”
