A FUGITIVE from York suspected of setting fire to a house has been tracked down and arrested in Finland.

Thomas Oakley, 21, from Boltby Road, Rawcliffe, was charged with arson with intent to endanger life in 2016, after a house fire in Selby.

He was due to appear before York Magistrates' Court on May 17 last year, but never turned up. When he failed to appear, a warrant was put out for his arrest, and police released his details to try to track him down.

On Wednesday, North Yorkshire Police said specially-trained intelligence officers eventually located Oakley Helsinki, Finland, and have worked with the country's authorities to arrange his extradition.

He is currently being held in custody in Helsinki, and is due to appear in front of magistrates in York next Thursday, May 31.
