YORK is set to enjoy a warm and sunny Spring Bank Holiday weekend - but daytrippers heading to the Yorkshire coast should expect much cooler weather.

Forecasters expect temperatures to climb into the low 20s on Saturday, Sunday and Monday in York, with plenty of sunshine.

But a north easterly breeze is set to keep the maximum in Scarborough down to just 14 or 15C, with some coastal low cloud and mist possible at times.

Before the weekend, York is expected to become sunny this afternoon after morning cloud, and tomorrow should be sunny again, but Friday is set to see rain, sometimes thundery in York before the settled weather arrives in time for the weekend.

More warm sunshine is expected through next week, as high pressure maintains its grip on weather in the UK.
