A VILLAGE near Selby is gearing up for a series of summer events, including a ‘Big Lunch,’ beer festival and live music.

Spokeswoman Sonia Hearld said the fun in Burn will begin on Friday with a three-day beer festival at the village’s Wheatsheaf pub - landlord Andy Howdall’s 15th such event.

Sonia said: "With ten real ales, plus four at the bar, this CAMRA Pub of the Year winner is sure to attract anyone in search of an interesting beverage.

"There is also live music from Mick Cooney plus other musicians on the Friday night and from the one man, acoustic ‘human jukebox’ local favourite, Marc Atkinson, on the Saturday evening."

A free concert will also be held on Saturday, June 2, in a marquee in The Wheatsheaf car park, featuring Selby Music Centre Folk Group and a four-piece ensemble, The Tea Band.

Sonia said: "The Folk Group plays a selection of Irish music, flamenco, tango and other folk genres on violins, guitars, flutes, mandolins and other folk instruments.

"The Tea Band is a four-piece rhythm and blues group that throws in some jazz and also a little post punk and at their Burn gig, they will be playing a totally acoustic set of original songs and one or two obscure covers."

On Sunday June 3, the Vintage Vocalist Paula Marie, will join Burn residents, families and friends for Burn’s tenth ‘Big Lunch’ with a musical trip through the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.

The Big Lunch was created by Cornwall’s Eden Project to encourage communities to socialise, and Burn has staged one every year. There will be a barbecue courtesy of the Wheatsheaf, with support from Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsburys, from 3pm, with Paula performing from 3.30pm.
