The problem of young people “killing time” each evening at street corners was discussed at a meeting at the Mansion House, York. Proposing a vote of thanks to the Lord mayor Alderman C T Hutchinson for presiding, Councillor A G Watson, a member of the Area Committee, described it as one of the most urgent needs of the city and that there should be a new up-to-date swimming bath to help with the boredom. Sooner or late York would need to have to build two baths and it would be money well spent. Over in Bridlington, the Parade Committee was busy preparing its proposal for a £20,000 scheme for a bathing pool to be erected on the site of the Princes Parade. The proposed bathing pool would have provision for 1,500 spectators and 800 bathers. And the funeral for Mrs Edith Alice Shouksmith, wife of Mr A W Shouksmith, a director of the firm of J H Shouksmith and Sons had taken place. The service was held at the Wesley Chapel, Priory Street, where Mrs Shouksmith had been a regular worshipper.
