THE Wilberforce Trust is organizing a VIP red-carpet screening of Oscar-winning short film “The Silent Child” at York's Everyman cinema next week to help raise the profile of its plans for a new state-of-the-art community hub.

The York trust was recently granted planning permission for 30 high-tech apartments for people with sensory impairments off Tadcaster Road, and is looking to raise nearly £2 million to fund it.

The film screening is intended to raise awareness of deaf children's needs and explain the trust's work. The sign language film features a profoundly deaf child whose life is transformed when she is taught sign language by her social worker.
