FUNDRAISERS have helped Yorkshire Cancer Research raise, with Gift Aid, a record £8,014 during their March house-to-house collection, beating last year’s total by nearly £500.

The collection covered Pickering and surrounding villages and this year was extended to Goathland. Donations included one from the Heartbeat Police Car parked outside the Aidensfield village store.

Valerie Chadwick, Pickering Committee secretary, thanked the eight members of Ryedale Lions for once again helping with the collection.

“The Lions’ support had enabled the committee achieve three consecutive record years during which a total, with Gift Aid, of nearly £23,000 had been raised.

“However, during 2017, the committee had been struck by illnesses and unexpected deaths, and are appealing for more volunteers to come forward both as helpers and potential committee members.”

Anyone who would like to help, should phone 01751 476354, 01751 475630 or 01751 475760. Pickering Committee’s next event will be a golf day, sponsored by Pickering Rotary Club, at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club on July 11. Teams of four are invited to enter.
