A FORMER methodist chapel will be turned into a house under new plans.

Harome Methodist Chapel, in Chapel Lane, dates back to 1909, but closed to worshippers last year.

The chapel, which has historic features such as stained-glass windows and an elaborate double door entrance, is owned by the Ryedale Methodist Circuit.

At a meeting of Ryedale District Council planning committee last week, members approved an application to turn the chapel into a four-bedroom home, detached garage and associated amenity space.

A planning report said the building was built for a congregation of about 120 people, but that small rural chapels have seen declining membership in the past few years, with closures at Barton-le-Willows, Wrelton, Rillington, Marton, Lockton and Cropton.
