THE 117th anniversary of Newton-upon-Derwent chapel will be marked by a service at 4pm on Sunday May 27, which will be dedicated to ‘village volunteers,’ with everyone welcome.
Meanwhile, a village project, “Newton 1918...then and now,” will be launched with a talk in the chapel at 7.30pm on Thursday June 7 by Phil Gilbank, about a soldier from the village, Harry Blanshard Wood, who received the Victoria Cross for his bravery during the First World War.
