POLICE officers, staff and volunteers who died in the line of duty have been honoured at a memorial service.
Families and friends were invited to attend the annual event, which took place at North Yorkshire Police headquarters in Northallerton.
One of the officers honoured was PC Richard Ellerker, who died on December 26 1993 at the age of 43. PC Ellerker was on foot patrol when he was injured while arresting a drunk and violent male. Shortly afterwards he collapsed and died of a heart attack.
Temporary Chief Constable Lisa Winward said the event is an important day, adding: "It affords us the opportunity to gather together, to reflect and remember our colleagues fondly and give thanks for their dedication and ultimate sacrifice they gave to keep the public of North Yorkshire safe."
