ANDREW SIMPSON’S brace for Sporting Knavesmire has condemned Malton & Norton to second-bottom spot in the York Minster Engineering League premier division - and a painful wait to find out if they will be demoted.

The 2-0 defeat settled the top flight’s final relegation place, with Malton & Norton now set to York RI in the second tier for 2018/19 - subject to a league annual general meeting ballot over the consequences of Pocklington Town 2nds’ inability to be promoted.

As reported, Pock have finished second in division one but cannot go up as their first team are already playing at Step 7 of the football pyramid, playing in the Humber Premier League.

The AGM will now decide if M&N or Kirkbymoorside, who have finished third in division one, will play in the top flight next term.

Elsewhere, Liam Gautry (two) and Steve Lyon struck for Hemingbrough in a 3-1 victory over Osbaldwick, which was the final game for both sides in the league this season.

In the only other game to be played at the weekend, Pollington crashed out of the League Junior Cup after a 3-1 home loss to Malt Shovel.

F1, meanwhile, brought the curtain down on their long season with a solid performance against Copmanthorpe.

Goals from Toby Fisher, Alex Martin and Dan Hickey gave F1 a 3 -0 half-time lead.

Cop pulled one back in the second half through Lee Bannister, but F1 finished strongly with Alex Martin completing his hat-trick and a further goal from George Trifan.
