TWO women were seriously injured in a crash involving an unmarked North Yorkshire Police car.

North Yorkshire Police said the crash happened in Harrogate, at the junction of Cold Bath Road and Otley Road at just after 10.10pm on Saturday, May 5.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "The collision involved an unmarked police car and a Vauxhall Corsa. The two occupants of the Corsa, both women in their late seventies, sustained serious injuries. One of the women was taken to the LGI, the other woman to Harrogate District Hospital.

"The female Police Officer driving the unmarked police car was taken to Harrogate Hospital with a serious, but not life threatening injury."

The Independent Office for Police Conduct is understood to be looking into the matter, and the Major Collisions Investigation Team has urged anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash to contact them on 101.
