YORK St John University is to name a building ‘Ripon’ next month, in acknowledgement of the impact of Ripon College on higher education.

A spokeswoman said St John had been at the heart of teacher training for 175 years, but women had been educated for many years at a separate establishment in Ripon.

She said the Ripon campus closed in 2003 but all Ripon College graduates were being invited along on the afternoon of June 30, when New Wing is re-named by Vice Chancellor Karen Stanton, followed by afternoon tea, lawn games and tours of Ripon memorabilia throughout the current campus.
