AN ELECTRICAL fault is believed to have sparked a car fire on the A64 near York this morning.

Fire crews were called to the incident, involving a Vauxhall Astra, on the eastbound carriageway close to Fulford at about 6.20am.

Damage was limited to the engine compartment only.

A dry powder extinguisher was used before crews arrived.

Firefighters used a hose reel to cool the engine.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire fire service said: "The cause is believed to be an electrical fault".
