KRAUTROCK luminary Damo Suzuki will perform with an assembly of hand-picked local musicians at The Crescent on Sunday night when his never-ending tour makes a rare stop-off in York.

Japanese-born Suzuki found fame after Can members Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit spotted him busking in Munich when sitting outside a street café. They invited him to join the German experimental rock band on stage that night, and he duly replaced Malcolm Mooney, who had left after Can's 1969 debut, Monster Movie.

Suzuki sang with Can from 1970 to 1973, recording the albums Tago Mago in 1971, Ege Bamyasi in 1972 and Future Days in 1973. At 68, he still performs regularly, "his voice remaining a beautiful philosopher's stone, the alchemical jigsaw piece of the krautrock puzzle".

He will be joined on Sunday's 7.30pm bill by Neuschlaufen. Tickets cost £10 from The Crescent, in The Crescent, Earworm Records in Powells Yard, Goodramgate, or Jumbo Records in Leeds or at pleasepleaseyou.com
