A COUPLE from York have pulled on their hiking boots for a challenge in aid of Christian Aid.

Sue and Nick Nightingale are walking 42 miles from Filey to York Minster.

The challenge, to mark this year’s Christian Aid Week (May 13 to 19), began on Saturday and will finish this Saturday at the Minster.

The pair are joined by retired couple John and Nancy Eckersley, from Flamborough, on the pilgrimage that is also tying in with the celebration of the restoration of the Minster’s East Window.

Former York residents John and Nancy, who organised the challenge, have been supporting Christian Aid for nearly 50 years.

They have raised more than £100,000 for the charity over the years through sponsored walks and selling their eight Yorkshire-based walking guides.
