A NAIL artist from Acomb has been shortlisted for a national award.

Olivia Oldfield, 25, trained in the beauty therapy department at York College in 2011-2013 and now works at an award winning salon called Pastille Beauty Bar in Leeds.

She said the salon had been nominated for the title ‘Nail Salon of the Year’, while she personally was up for the award of ‘Gel Polish Nail Stylist of the Year' at the Scratch Stars Awards 2018, presented by industry publication Scratch Magazine.

Organisers said the awards, now in their seventh year, were intended to recognise and reward outstanding talent and achievement within the professional nail industry.

They said Olivia will now attend the final judging day on May 14 at The London College of Beauty Therapy, where she will need to demonstrate her artistic flair and be interviewed by a panel of expert judges.

Olivia said: “When I found out I had been named as a finalist within this category, I burst into tears, as this is the first competition I’ve ever been shortlisted for. I’m looking forward to competing."
