HOW long does it take to install safety barriers on the A64?

I went over to Leeds a few days ago and was staggered to see that the A64 still has a 40mph speed restriction applying - after what must be two months of work from Tadcaster to Bramham Crossroads and the A1.

It was daytime so nobody was working on the contract, so why the speed restriction to the purgatory of 40mph - and, of course, the electronic tills (average speed cameras) installed along the route?

Are they hoping if they spin it out a few months the fines will pay for the work and this will be the new norm as ‘authority’ seems to think they can put their hand in our trousers/handbag and take our money these days? It’s never ending.

I thought these elaborate camera systems were to protect the workforce - which is reasonable and right - but for the 16 hours they are not there, why should they be operational coining it in and why can’t the speed be increased to 50mph or 60mph?

Round the corner from me on the back road to Acaster Malbis/Copmanthorpe, or the road from Crockey Hill to Wheldrake (a major accident waiting to happen) - both single carriageways and no barriers - drivers travel up to 70mph.
