SINGER, songwriter, composer, poet and multi-instrumentalist Emily Maguire will play Helmsley Arts Centre on June 22.

She has written candidly of her experiences of psychosis and depression, both in songs and her 2017 collection of poetry, prose and song lyric, Notes From The North Pole.

Last year, Emily released her fifth album, A Bit Of Blue, marking its arrival by singing live on BBC Radio 2 and talking to presenter Clare Balding about her music, mental health and Buddhist faith.

She has been touring with Australian bass player Christian Dunham. "I am just so happy to be out there again, performing," she says. "Music to me is all about uplifting, comforting and inspiring the people listening. That’s all I want to do."

Emily has played many gigs in mental health hospitals and is a patron of the British mental health charity Restore. She was invited to perform at the World Congress of Psychiatry in Berlin in 2017 and will be touring Germany as well as the UK in 2018.

Back from recording in Australia for her sixth album, she says: "I’m looking forward to playing some of the new songs that will be on my next record."

Tickets for this 7.30pm concert can be booked on 01439 771700 or at helmsleyarts.co.uk.
