THE Waterboys return to York Barbican this weekend on the second leg of their tour promoting their 12th studio album Out Of All This Blue.

Released last September, the album is the first double disc by Mike Scott’s band and entered the charts at number eight, their highest position since 1993.

Many of the impassioned songs bear witness to Scott being a man in love after marrying controversial Japanese artist Megumi Igarashi. "Sometimes my music comes round to a place where it touches pop," he says. "I love when that happens and this is one of those times."

The Waterboys have beaten a regular path to York in recent years, playing the Barbican in March 2012; December 2013, on their Fisherman's Blues Revisited 25th anniversary tour; August 2014 and November 2015. This time, Edinburgh-born Scott, 59, will lead a seven-piece line-up.

Tickets are still available for Saturday's 8pm gig at york barbican.co.uk, on 0844 854 2757 or on the door from 6.30pm. The Waterboys will play further Yorkshire shows at Halifax Victoria Hall on May 9 and Hull City Hall on May 10.
