POLICE are warning residents to take care in York this weekend as they prepare for the city to get busier due to warmer weather.
Officers expecting an increase in visitors and said more police will be patrolling the streets, alongside York BID street rangers, Street Angels and council officers to keep people safe.
Inspector Andy Godfrey said: "It's no accident York was chosen as the best place to live in the UK by the Sunday Times this year, with experts praising its 'cultural scene' and 'romantic beauty', and highlighting that it's one of the friendliest and safest places in the country.
"We value the great support from the city's businesses and licensees, so whether you're visiting York for its shops, its pubs or its culture, you can be confident you'll have a safe and enjoyable time here.
"The number of people in the city centre will increase in the coming weeks, which is why police officers, PCSOs and Special Constables from York's Neighbourhood Policing Team will be out on foot in the city centre, providing a high-visibility presence. They'll be working alongside our many partner organisations, to keep everyone safe.
"If you do encounter any issues or concerns, call us on 101 or 999 in an emergency, or talk to an officer on patrol. We'll be there to help. And if you don't have any concerns, stop and chat to us anyway - it's always good to talk."
