SOUNDS from bygone days will thunder over Elvington this weekend.

The Yorkshire Air Museum is staging its 2018 Spring Thunder Day on Sunday when aeroplanes will roar into life with engine runs of the museum’s jet and propeller-driven aircraft.

The event will also be a celebration of the first flight of the Blackburn Buccaneer from the Museum at Brough.

April 30, 1958, was the first flight of the Buccaneer which went on to serve in both the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

The Elvington museum has three Buccaneers, with the rare prototype XN974 maintained in full ground running order.

All three will be on full display at the event with an array of their capabilities for visitors to learn more about this versatile aircraft.

Celebrating the first flight of the Buccaneer, the famous prototype trials aircraft, Buccaneer XN975, will be demonstrating her wing folding, control surfaces and those mighty jet engines.

David Herriot, of the Buccaneer Aircrew Association, will be giving a talk entitled Buccaneer at 60.

There will also be a fire rescue demonstration by the museum fire team.
