NEGOTIATORS brought "a distressed woman" down to safety from the fifth floor of a multi-storey car park this week, police said.

North Yorkshire Police were called to the car park in Tower Street, Harrogate, after concerns for the woman's safety were reported at 3.50pm on Tuesday.

Nearby roads were closed while officers engaged with the local woman, aged in her twenties, and she agreed to be helped into an ambulance and taken to Harrogate District Hospital at 4.30pm.

A police spokesman said the woman was then taken to a hospital in Leeds for further support and care.
