RETIRED cricket commentator Henry Blofeld is coming to Helmsley.

Henry retired from international cricket commentary in June last year following an illustrious 50 years behind the microphone, and has since been embarking on his farewell theatre tour with sell-out shows across the country.

His plummy tones are known and loved worldwide thanks to his extensive cricket commentary career on both television and radio and he has commentated on some of the most iconic moments in cricket over the last half-century.

Henry’s new live show is jam-packed full of unheard anecdotes from on and off the pitch, as well as stories from the Test Match Special box. As a broadcaster, he is the longest serving member of the prestigious Test Match Special cricket commentary team, having joined the show in 1972. Between 1991 and 1994 he worked for Sky Television before returning to the BBC in 1994.

Henry recently presented a four-part series for Classic FM called Blowers Around Britain and released autobiographical book Over and Out published by Hodder and Stoughton, which was one of the Top 10 Best Selling Celebrity Autobiographies of 2017. His theatre credits include a series of one-man shows around the country, An Evening with Blowers, and collaborations with John Bly and Peter Baxter.

Henry will be at Helmsley Arts Centre on September 29. Tickets are available from henryblofeld.co.uk, helmsleyarts.co.uk or phone 01439 771700.
