THE £130,000 revamp of York's Register Office has been unveiled.

The site on Bootham officially reopened this week after undergoing a major refurbishment project to improve facilities for visitors and couples.

A new room, called the Ebor Room, has been opened within the grade II-listed Georgian building where brides and grooms can prepare for their wedding. An improved reception area, new ceremony room and extra interview room have also been revealed as part of the scheme.

Cllr Nigel Ayre said: “The Register Office is an iconic building in York, which is visited by thousands of people every year. The refurbishment has made the beautiful building even better for customers and staff, and has cemented its reputation as one of the best locations in the country to get married.”
