A WELL KNOWN Selby couple have celebrated their golden wedding and raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
Tony and Doris Rock held a celebration party at Selby Working Men's Club earlier this month and asked the 100 guests to make a donation to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity instead of buying gifts.
The party raised £500, which was presented to the charity this week.
Tony said: "We thought it was a good idea, as it is such a needy charity which does such good work."
The couple first met as Doris was a friend of Tony's sister, and after a three-year courtship they were married at Thornhill Parish Church in Dewsbury.
They lived in the Dewsbury area, where Tony was a miner, and Doris was a weaver in a mill, before moving to Selby 35 years ago.
Tony, a bellringer at Selby Abbey for 25 years, worked at Wistow pit, and Doris worked as a sales assistant at a local store.
The couple have two daughters, and "working together" was echoed by the couple as their recipe for a happy married life.
