DOZENS of young footballers from York wore their club kit with pride as they formed a guard of honour at the Leeds United vs Barnsley game.

More than 60 players from Fulford FC turned out to watch the match on Saturday and take part in a number of activities as part of the Elland Road club's grassroots scheme.

The initiative encourages local clubs to be part of match days, with the opportunity to enjoy reduced price tickets, while earning cash back for their club.

The Fulford players, from Under 6s up to Under 15s, were also invited to take part in the guard of honour, be player escorts and do a half time parade.

Michaela Browne, one of the Fulford FC Under 11s parents and event organiser, said: "It was a glorious sunny afternoon and over 150 people from the club, including coaches, parents and players, turned out to support the club at the event. "We had over 60 young players taking part in the pre match activities. It was an amazing atmosphere at the ground and the attendance for the derby game was over 30,000. All got to see some fantastic football and great play from both sides. The game ended with Leeds winning 2-1, which thrilled the home fans watching the game."
