YORK Visitor Centre, the Grand Hotel, York's Chocolate Story and Millers Fish and Chip Shop have all been recognised in a national tourism awards ceremony.

York Visitor Information Centre won a gold prize while York's Chocolate Story won first place for the best guided tour at the Visit England Awards for Excellence 2018.

Millers Fish and Chip Shop in Haxby won silver in the taste of England category while the Grand Hotel and Spa won a bronze award in the inbound tourism section.

The 21 winners were announced at an event hosted by Kirstie Allsopp in Bath.

Visit England chief executive Sally Balcombe said: “These awards shine a spotlight on our fantastic tourism industry with the winners showcasing the quality, innovation and excellence on offer throughout the country. From an outstanding boutique hotel in the Dales to a tour of York’s chocolate-making history, from pine holiday lodges on the sandy beaches of Cornwall to a quintessentially English country-pub in Hertfordshire, these winners provide outstanding and truly memorable visitor experiences.”
