POLICE called to an alleged sexual assault in York now say no crime took place.
North Yorkshire Police arrested a 31-year-old man following a report of a serious sexual assault in the city, and he remained in custody throughout Monday.
No police cordon was visible, but two officers remained at the doors of the White Horse pub in Bootham since before 9am.
However, at just after 4.30pm, the police spokeswoman said the man had been released without further action.
She said: "Following enquiries, detectives investigating a serious sexual assault in the Bootham area of York overnight between Sunday 22 and Monday 23 April 2018 have now concluded their investigation and do not believe a crime has been committed.
"A 31 year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been released with no further action to be taken."
