A GROUP of friends are to attempt to hike the Yorkshire Three Peaks in memory of their best friend Robert Stephenson.

Robert, of Pickering, was 21 years old when he died on March 26, 2016, after being involved in a road collision on a night out in York.

The self-described “group of unfit twenty-somethings” will take on the challenge in June to raise money for the Rob Stephenson Trust, which helps to raise money for local sports clubs such as Thornton-le-Dale Cricket Club, as well as sporting projects overseas.

On the group’s fundraising page, they said: “Any donations, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated by all. We aim to raise at least £1,000 so Rob’s memory can live on.”

They added that for donations of £50 or more, the donator is able to set them an extra challenge along the way.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, typically in this order, and in under 12 hours.

The Rob Stephenson Trust was set up in his memory. It aims to provide opportunities for more young people to be able to participate in and enjoy sport.
