A MALTON businessman is taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday to raise funds for three charities.

Paul Tate-Smith, managing director of the Tate-Smith Ltd, is running his first full marathon for New Futures Nepal, St Peter’s Church Norton and The Encephalitis Society.

Paul said: “In 2012, at the age of 50, I completed my first half marathon and said I would never tackle a marathon.

“Having now completed a few half marathons I have decided it is time to give the marathon a go, so on April 22 I will be joining thousands of other like-minded fools on the start line in London.

“I have never run a marathon before and after the training this winter I don’t think I will be running another.

“I have been lucky enough to get my place through my running club, Pickering Running Club, and I am very passionate about the charities which I am raising money for.

“I have so far raised more than £2,500 and if anyone else would like to sponsor me I would be eternally grateful.”
