RYEDALE District Council is looking for a pet to become the furry face of its dog fouling campaign.

Dog owners who sign up to be Green Dog Walkers – responsible dog owners who always pick up after their pets and tie a green ribbon to their dog’s lead – can put their dog forward. A winner will be chosen each week through the council’s Facebook page, who then go through to the grand final.

The Green Dog Walker scheme is being run with a number of local town and parish councils taking part and offering dog owners the ribbon. Dog walkers with green ribbons attached to their dog leads are identified as dog walkers with spare

bags. These dog walkers will also report any dog walkers who don’t pick up after their dog to Ryedale District Council.

Also as part of the Don’t be a Waster campaign, a number of town and parish councils are also adding new stickers to existing bins in the village reminding dog owners that bagged waste can go in regular waste bins as well as the dedicated dog bins..”

The council has also teamed up with Dogs Trust to host community events to promote responsible dog ownership. The next event will run at Pickering Memorial Hall and Monday, April 30, at Norton Trinity Methodist Church.
