A learner driver is off the road for two years because he went looking for his girlfriend when twice the drink drive limit.

Caroline Abraham, prosecuting, said Andrew Lee Simpson, 29, and his partner argued after a night out and she left their home.

He then drove around looking for her, but his actions were reported to police and he was arrested. A blood test revealed he was twice the alcohol limit.

Simpson, of Portholme Drive, Selby, pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving alone without a full licence and uninsured driving.

He was fined £200 with a £30 statutory surcharge and £85 prosecution costs and banned from driving for two years.

Simpson, who represented himself, said both he and his girlfriend had been affected by alcohol.
