COMPETITORS from across the region will be taking part in the Special Olympics’ Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Short Mat Carpet Bowls Competition in York next month.

The event, due to be held on May 19 at New Earswick and District Indoor Bowls Club in Huntington, will see some of the region’s top mixed-ability bowls players take to the green to find out who is the champion.

Sponsored by Hethertons Solicitors, the event, sanctioned as a Special Olympics Regional Competition, is part of the UK’s network of Special Olympics events, which allows competitors of mixed ability to compete at national level.

Tom Henry, director at Hethertons Solicitors, said: “We are very proud to be sponsoring this competition once again. There has already been a lot of interest from competitors and spectators alike, so we are hoping for a big crowd.

“Competitions such as these play a vital role in supporting people with a range of disabilities to enjoy the sports they love and excel at.”
