THE way Theresa May has blindly followed President Trump with the attacks on Syria bears a striking resemblance to the way Tony Blair followed then President Bush into the catastrophic Gulf War.

Two points worry me about the attack on Syria.

It would appear the only corroboration needed for the attacks were the pictures of young children having their eyes and clothes drenched in water in an apparent way to remove the chemical used.

The second point was in a Sunday newspaper and made me feel decidedly uneasy.

There were photographs of two “gas canisters” which had, apparently, been dropped as part of the gas attack.

One photograph showed an indeterminate yellow object with a fitting on the end

purporting to be a canister.

However the other “gas canister” was simply the type of gas bottle you

would have as part of an

oxy-acetylene welding set-up.

As an engineer, I

recognised this immediately.

Admittedly the same type of gas bottle can be used for other types of gases such as chlorine.

Using that type of gas

bottle would be a mark of desperation and definitely not a product from the

dedicated poison gas

factory at Barzen, which was destroyed.

I am not trying to defend President Bashar al-Assad. But I think Theresa May should have called for a debate in Parliament before committing our armed forces the way she has.

Tony Blair took us into an illegal war. We don’t want it to happen again.

Quick action vital after chemical attack

Queen Elizabeth I must have chastised Drake for his bowls on the brink of the Armada invasion.

But how apt is our

situation where Parliament was busy doing the same when our Prime Minister needed them to back her in our time of need.

Evil needs to be confronted promptly, not left to the undecided who have no real direction when it comes to upholding our humane values.

Chemical warfare is an evil that holds no values or boundaries; whoever supports that embraces the hellish abuse.
