HUNSLET blues and jazz singer, songwriter and finger-picking guitarist Michael Chapman made plenty of lists for the Top 30 albums of 2017 with his January release 50, marking his 50 years since he first went on the road.
Chapman, 77, returns to his travels this month, playing Scarborough Market Hall on Saturday at 7pm and closing his tour at The Basement Jazz Club, City Screen, York, on April 28 at 8pm.
Revered as a guitarist as much as his 1960s' peers Davey Graham, Bert Jansch and Richard Thompson, he has been discovered and championed by a younger generation, notably by Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, who has recorded and toured with Chapman in recent years.
Appearing on recordings with Hiss Golden Messenger and Steve Gunn has cemented the Yorkshireman's position as a pivotal figure in roots, folk and acoustic guitar playing, Scarborough tickets cost £10 at ents24.com/scarborough-events; York tickets, £10 at thebasementyork or £12 on the door.
