A MAN had to be rescued after he slipped into a river in North Yorkshire while trying to avoid a herd of cows.
Fire crews from Thirsk and Ripon were called to reports of a man in the River Swale near the village of Asenby at about 5.20pm yesterday (April 15).
Police had rescued the man before the crews arrived.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire fire service said: "He had slipped in to his waist whilst avoiding a herd of curious cows."
