A COMPANY behind York’s Hungate development is urging people to nominate the unsung heroes of the health service.

The development, a joint venture between developers Lendlease and Evans Property Group, is backing the Health Service Hero category in the 2017 Community Pride Awards.

A spokesman for Lendlease, said: “We’re incredibly proud to once again be sponsoring this award, which is an opportunity for much-deserved recognition for those individuals who consistently strive to make their part of the world a better place.

“The nominations offer us a source of inspiration and should be commended for the positive impact they’re having across Yorkshire.

“Community is at the heart of our work at Lendlease.

"Through the creation of a new community at Hungate, and the small part we play in these local awards, we’re able to celebrate the valiant efforts of those who often go noticed.”

He says the Health Service Hero award is the “perfect platform” to shine a spotlight on those in our community that are going the extra mile.

He added: “It’s an honour for us to support the category.”

The Health Service Hero award recognises the unsung heroes in the health service whose dedication is second to none.

The winner of the award last year was Catherine Gascoyne, a waiting list co-ordinator at York Hospital who had worked at the hospital for nearly 30 years.

The Community Pride Awards are run by The Press in partnership with City of York Council and the primary sponsor is York-based healthcare organisation Benenden.

All nominees must live in, or contribute to life in, the City of York Council area.

Three finalists from each category will be invited to the awards ceremony at York Racecourse in October, when the winners will be revealed.

Entries can be posted to York Community Pride Awards, The Press, 84-86 Walmgate, York YO1 9YN.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday, July 27.

Nominations must include a supporting statement of no more than two sides of A4 with each entry and may include a photograph, which unfortunately we will be unable to return.
