PUPILS at a York girls’ school had a blast when Yorkshire Tenor Jacob Walsh turned up to sing with their choir.

The event at The Mount School marked the official launch of ticket sales for An Enchanted Evening, a proms event on June 9 at Escrick Park organised by Jacob and showcasing local talent including the man himself, Mezzo Ionica Adriana and The Mount’s choir, and accompanying pianist Matthew Collins among other local musical talents.

The Mount became involved in the event after Jacob heard them singing in a local radio broadcast of the all-girl Quaker senior school’s annual Christmas service.

Liking what he heard, he contacted the radio station, YO1 Radio, who put him in touch with the school’s head of Music, Rachel Derbyshire.

She said: “It is a great honour for the girls to be invited to perform.”

“To be asked to perform with a virtuoso of Jacob’s and Ionica’s calibre is a singer’s dream come true.”

On Friday, Jacob and The Mount’s Choir performed Puccini’s Nessun Dorma and Stephen Adam’s The Holy City in front of the entire Senior School. The Choir also performed When You Believe by Stephen Schwartz.
