EDDY Brimson tops tonight's Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club bill at York Barbican, joined by Mike Milligan, Josh Hones and host Damion Larkin at 8pm.

Since turning to comedy in 1999, Brimson's career has taken him from Dundee to Dubai and he has appeared on television in such guises as Hari Krishna in both Smith & Jones and Heartburn Hotel and a hard-nosed villain in EastEnders, where he "turned over Frank Butcher's car a lot".

Other appearances include Absolutely Fabulous, The Thin Blue Line, Hale & Pace, The Bill, Silent Witness, Casualty, Between The Lines and the HBO movie The Infiltrator, where he played a gang member. He contributes to Talk Sport and BBC Radio 5 Live and is a prolific writer too.

Mike Milligan used to earn his keep as a teacher in Newcastle: ideal preparation for knowing how to interact with an audience. Once this Geordie found classrooms were not the best place to share his witty banter, he turned to stand-up comedy and now his teaching days are on summer vacation indefinitely.

Milligan has pulled the strings as resident compere at Newcastle's Hyena Comedy Café and can turn his comedic skills from tough gigs to after-dinner speaking and corporate shows. He also provided the voiceover for Viz comic's Sid The Sexist video, as well as performing his character live in concert at Newcastle City Hall.

Gag writer and performer Josh Jones is a "camp tour de force, your gay best friend, super bitchy, uber feminine, ultra working class and totally adorable, with the cutest little baby face that makes you love him despite the awful things he says".

Compere Damion Larkin will improvise his entire set as usual. "If you can’t make this event, check out the other dates available on our website," he says. "The next date is April 13."

Tickets cost £17 on 0844 854 2757 or at lolcomedyclubs.co.uk or on the door from 7.30pm.
