FOUR entries from York have made it on to the shortlist of this year’s Visit Britain Awards with a further two from North Yorkshire in contention for a title.

VisitEngland yesterday announced the finalists of its national Awards for Excellence, with three shortlisted hopefuls across 18 categories.

The awards, which are being held at Bath Assembly Rooms on April 23, will see York represented on the night by four organisations.

Shortlisted in the Guided Tour of the Year category is York’s Chocolate Story, while The Grand Hotel & Spa is in the running for the Inbound Tourism Award.

Miller’s Fish and Chips in Haxby is up for the Taste of England Award and the York Visitor Information Centre is a finalist in the Visitor Information Provider of the Year.

Slightly further afield Rudding Park near Harrogate is shortlisted as Hotel of the Year alongside Ripon’s The Bruce Arms which is in the final three for the Tourism Pub of the Year title.

Winners will be awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold award at the ceremony.

VisitEngland chief executive Sally Balcombe said: “These awards are a celebration of our thriving tourism industry.

“They highlight the people and the organisations that deliver amazing experiences for visitors, raising the profile of England as a world-class destination.”
