THE seventh annual Yorkshire Cajun and Zydeco Festival brought some heat amid the snow in Malton at the weekend.

The festival, held at the Milton Rooms, featured three days of music, dancing, workshops and film shows.

Organiser John Adamson said that the snow may have affected attendance slightly but it didn’t affect proceedings.

“All the bands turned up and nothing went wrong,” he said. “Everyone had a great time.”

The new additions to the festival included, for the first time, a Cajun Ceilidh for St Patrick’s Day and a vintage dance.

It started on Friday with Acadian Strings and Trio Hot Creole, a new line-up featuring Chris Hall, Phil Underwood and Hazel Scott.

Saturday included workshops, music session and the ceilidh. Manchester band Cajun Specials made their festival debut and for the first time in the UK, the Dutch VUIG band closed Saturday night.

Sunday saw the vintage dance, with festival favourites Bosco Beret joined on stage by the fiddle of Malton’s own Nick Thompson, and with Chris Hall’s Double Shots closing the festival.

The festival was again supporting the charity North Yorkshire Music Therapy - the total raised is still in the process of being added up.
