TWO people were taken to hospital following a house fire in Ryedale yesterday evening.

Firefighters from Malton, Pickering and Huntington were called to the blaze at a property in Hambleton Road, Norton, at about 6.30pm.

The crews used breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two main jets to put out the fire.

Police and ambulance services also attended the scene and a female occupant and male passer-by were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

The emergency services left the scene at 9.45pm.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire fire service said the cause is believed to be accidental.
