A RAIL passenger who was three times the drink drive limit as he attempted to drive out of York Railway Station has been banned from the roads.
Martin Butterworth, prosecuting, said a member of the public alerted police to Charles Wesley Kama’s actions on November 17.
Officers stopped the man who has served in two countries’ armed forces as he drove towards the long term stay car park’s entrance.
A blood test showed he was three times the drink drive limit.
Kama, 49, of Bishopthorpe Road, York, pleaded guilty to drink driving.
He was banned from driving for 25 months, and ordered to do 50 hours’ unpaid work and pay a £85 statutory surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
For him, Chris Rowe said he had been drinking the previous evening at his leaving do from a civilian job in Newcastle and thought he was safe to drive because he had slept on the train journey south.
Kama had served in both the Fijian and British armed forces and was remorseful for his actions.
He supported his family in Fiji and was a regular church attender.
