A TRIO of local TV presenters stopped off in York today as they braved the rain on the second day of their huge fundraising challenge.

Harry Gration, Amy Garcia and Paul Hudson are transporting the BBC Look North sofa 100 miles around Yorkshire, visiting 50 places in eight days.

They are meeting viewers and raising funds for Sport Relief while celebrating Look North’s 50th anniversary.

Yesterday, their journey started in Tadcaster before calling at Bolton Percy, Appleton Roebuck, Acaster Malbis, Bishopthorpe, York Racecourse and then York Museum Gardens.

Harry said: “There was an amazing turnout in Tadcaster which got us off to a really good start despite the wet weather. The weather is definitely against us and my knee is playing up but we’re looking forward to arriving in York later where we know we will get a great reception.”

As well as York, their challenge is taking them to some of the county’s big cities including Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford as well as the North Yorkshire coastline, the Peak District and landmarks like Nostell Priory, Haworth Main Street and Stanage Edge.

The trio are pushing, pulling and dragging the sofa, which has been specially adapted by students at Leeds City College.

They are travelling along highways and country lanes, climbing hills and descending into valleys, stopping off in cities, towns and villages along the route.

Viewers are welcome to cheer on the team.

They began the challenge on Thursday in Birstall near Batley and will finish next Thursday in Otley.

The Look North team has taken part in various Sport Relief challenges in previous years. In 2016, Harry and Paul walked three-legged for 139 miles raising more than £300,000.

In 2014, Harry and Amy raised £250,000 when they travelled on a tandem bicycle for 280 miles across the region.

This year, Sport Relief is calling on the nation to get together to beat one billion steps a day, every day, during the week of Sport Relief, March 17 to 23.
