POLICE are still urging drivers to take care, particularly on higher ground and on country roads after last night's high winds and snow in York and North Yorkshire last night.

But the county escaped the worst of the weather with only the extreme west highlands being badly hit.

A yellow ice warning for all of York, East and North Yorkshire  remains in force until mid-day tomorrow.

Snow showers are expected to die out today in York and North Yorkshire but it will continue to feel bitterly cold as the 'Mini Beast from the East' brings a return of winter.

Tmperatures are slowly rising today and will rise rapidly through next week to 10C by Thursday.

Hull Trains which link East Yorkshire with London have announced they are running a reduced service until further notice as a result of the last snowfall.

They are still repairing some of their stock from the effects of the original "Beast from the East".
